China Gets Ahead of Germany - not only in Olympics

The volume of the domain zone of China continues to increase. It was revealed by CNNIC that during the 2nd quarter of 2008 the Chinese domain .CN has added to the number of registered domain names by 18%. CN is the fastest growing internet zone in the world to date. With 12,264,615 registrations it has already beaten .DE of Germany (currently 12,224,797 names) and therefore is the most popular country TLD and the third largest top level domain after generic names .com, and .net. in the world.
You may say that it is only a fraction that divides China and Germany but wait to see the growth rate statistics for the Q2 2008:
- .CN +18%
- .NET +6%
- .UK +5%
- .COM +5%
- .ORG +5%
- .NL +4%
- .BIZ +3%
- .DE +2%
- .EU +1%
- .INFO -1%
As you see, the poor old .INFO continues to deteriorate despite of all efforts of GoDaddy to save it. Should I mention all those almost ridiculous discounts?
.CN is the fastest growing TLD and eventually the gap between .DE and .CN will increase. However, the Chinese webmasters are yet to release their real power. Currently there are only 1.37 million websites using a .CN domain name - it means that more than 10,890,000 domain names are held as an investment or future development project.
