INTERVIEW: America.US Domain - Between Tire Kickers and 6 Figures
filed in Domain Sales, Internet Business on Jul.22, 2008
As we all know, America.com domain name was placed for sale on SEDO. Shortly after this historic moment America.US and America.mobi followed. We bring to your attention an exclusive interview with the lucky owner of America.US domain name. Let’s see who he is and why has he decided to sell America!
1. What was your initial idea when you registered america.us? Did you want to develop it or you knew it would only be an investment?
It WAS for development and still is, I’ve had a template last couple years to determine and what visistors want at America.us. I’m hoping to lanuch sometime in 09 if the domain name is not sold.
2. Do you think the buzz around America.com auction helps you or hinder your prospects?
SURE DOESNT HURT! With America.com in lime light, it brought further exposure to a America.us domain name, it’s a perfect match - America and .US!
3. Are you ready to reveal the approximate price you would be happy to accept?
As country tlds grow and grow, so too will .US domain names. Taxi.us sold for $35,000 last week to a commercial insurance company in the United States, one of the buyers’ responses to a question “why?” was “taxi.com wants $1 million!” So why pay $1 million when you can own same keyword for fraction of cost? And developed it wont get any less traffic. Compare earth.com and earth.us or pets.com vs. petclassifieds.us the “loss or delayed” traffic is more fearmongering than anything else, done by folks who invested only in .com domain names.
4. What is your current web presence? Are you a domainer, a webmaster?
Domaining is just a hobby for me.
5. How do you think the domain industry would change after ICANN accepted the new regulations of allowing generic top level domains (for example www.drink.coke)? Would it make life more difficult for domainers?
New extensions like .coke simply brings further awareness to what’s typed after the dot. All extensions will benefit from this.
6. Have you already had any serious offers?
Nothing in 6 figures or 7 figures
7. Do you receive many low offers from people that are not aware of the current market situation?
Sure! There are a lot of tire kickers; it comes with the territory.
8. What kind of website would america.us be good for? Do you see it as a social network, tourism site, etc.?
Something that encompass all the 50 states for news, sports, politics, entertainment and of course travel among the 50 states.
9. Why do you think it is a struggle to sell America.com domain name? Has the market changed?
Has nothing to do with the market, it’s just a gigantic keyword - bascially an entire country with 50 seperate individual states so there are enormous amounts of info, be it travel among the 50 states, life style, news, sports, politics among the 50 states , etc. So it really is bigger then most would be able to handle to get it right. You’re not just talking about one city/state .com - that’s small potatoes when it comes to America!
P.S. America.US as well as America.com and America.mobi are still available from SEDO. These great domain names will surely sell for big bucks. Keep reading our blog to learn how the battle for America unveils!
