ORG Anticipates The IDN Domain Names
filed in Domain Politics on Aug.29, 2008
According to the post on the official Public Interest Registry blog, PIR has sent a joint letter with Non-Commercial Users Constituency to ICANN with a plea to consider the end-users’ interests to implement Internationalized Domain Names (IDN). It means that if the proposal is eventually filed and it gets accepted we will have a possibility to register such international names like for example mayoría.org or über.org or anything else containing non-ASCII characters.Although the letter has been received and put on the ICANN archive (you can read it here), PIR hasn’t got any answer yet. As we all know such things take long time to commence.
The concept of IDN was pioneered by i-DNS.net International. To see the list of current IDN possibilities, visit i-DNS web site.
