The registry operator of the new TLD, Telnic Ltd, has revealed that exactly 100 domain name registrars have expressed their interest in offering .TEL domain names to clients.

The first to jump on the incomplete train of .TEL was the old fox EuroDNS. They are doing their best to be the first wherever it is possible. EuroDNS was the first registrar to actually accept .EU pre-registrations, now they’re trying to see if it’s possible to cash in on .TEL. Way to go.

It is not only established registrars that would like to claim a piece of the .TEL’s would-be popularity. Many small (yet innovative) companies have broadened the horizon of TEL to a truly international scope by adding Russia, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Turkey and even Romania to the picture.

If TEL will reach the goal it will become a universal contacts database and search system allowing people from all over the world to share their contact details and communicate on a completely new level. All this within the safe haven of Domain Name System (DNS) without a necessity to program or run a website.
