Just a couple of days after the .ORG 7 million milestone, Nominet has announced that UK domain name has reached the 7 million registrations mark, too. Congratulations!
Michelle Taylor, the owner of Toots Driving School in London, who registered the 7 millionth domain name tootsdrivingschool.co.uk, explained that she chose a UK domain in order to give their driving school’s web-site a local touch.
In a poll carried out by Nominet, the UK registry, shown that 72% of British internet users would trust a .co.uk web-site ratherthan .com.
Because of the loose and transparent registration policy .UK is also popular abroad. It is regarded as a mascot for respectability and a little bit of royalty.
With annual growth rate of %12.86 UK maintains its TOP3 position in country TLD competition with .CN (12,264,615) and .DE (12,224,797). NL of Netherlands is in the fourth place with 3 million domain names.

Yeah, I guess that’s helped by my recent .co.uk domain spending spree. The UK is a big and growing market and I believe users now see a .co.uk domain as being more reliable.

Well done! I bet the Queen is proud of you. We need to keep the lurking .NL at bay.
Seriously, you are right. Despite of what Mr Darling says, certain parts of British market will not go into the decline. Just the opposite, they will keep thriving.
